For any of you who read my posts or check my latest work, you are probably wondering what has happened to me, since I have not posted in months. I always have such good intentions to maintain a steady stream of commentary and actually was doing pretty well – for awhile.

Well, I am still here and still making art. I just haven’t photographed and posted any new work; I am still making new work. Actually I have been quite busy making work so I will practice my photography skills and post some. I did a series of “Peace” symbols and am working on a new series called “Oxford Faces”, based on photos I took in Oxford, England last April. I am continuing the “Medusa” series and am working on three pieces having to do with the land as sacred space.

I am teaching a lot right now, which accounts for some of my busyness: four art history classes and a studio class. I love doing this but it does take time! It is important to me however to keep up with the history of art as it places me in context with my predecessors. It also informs my work, and I hope, enriches and improves it. I am proud to be a part of the history of artists, however small. I also feel I am doing my part to develop new art appreciators, collectors and patrons. So I work hard to balance art teaching and artmaking! Anyone who is an artist understands the dilemma of time management (as do most of us I am sure).

Well, that’s it for today. I promise I will be back soon to update you on things art.

National Collage Society…Wish You Were Here

Pip's BLOG, Postcard Art 1 Comment

The next exhibition of the National Collage Society, of which I am a member, is the annual postcard show, titled “Wish You Were Here”. This show is open to all members of NCS, and each work is limited in size to 4″ by 6″, hence, postcard. I submitted a figurative collage, a head and shoulders image – picture to come – I neglected to photograph it before I sent it off – a bad habit of mine! Need to be more organized………..

This year’s show is actually in two different venues: The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown, Ohio ( http://www.butlerart.com)  and the Western Colorado Center for the Arts in Grand Junction (http://www.gjartcenter.org). The NCS website, which is listed in my blogroll, will post the images at a later date.

“Wish You Were Here”, in its two locations, can be seen throughout the months of June and July, 2009. If anyone happens to see the show, send me a comment!

Postcard collages

On occasion I create postcard size collages in a 4 x 6 inch format. Most of these are created for the annual “Wish You Were Here” postcard show curated by the National Collage Society. The NCS holds this exhibition every year to allow all members to contribute a piece. They also hold an annual juried competition which showcases a more limited number of larger pieces. The first piece shown here is the piece I sent this year to their exhibition in Glen Allen, Virginia, which opens in about a week.
